What is Migration?

Migration refers to the changeover required (following nbn™ installation) of your emergency elevator telephone connection from existing copper phone lines to a mobile network device called a ‘Gateway’.

Why do I need to migrate the emergency telephone line?

It is vital that your emergency elevator telephone system in your lift is operational at all times even during a power outage to minimize the risk of serious injury or death to trapped passengers who are unable to all for help.

Unlike the copper network, the nbn™ Network is not guaranteed to work in the event of a power failure/blackout leaving the line to the emergency phone in the elevator car inoperable.

It is estimated that over 400 people a year are trapped in elevators in Australia.

How does Elefone equipment continue to work in a power outage?

If a blackout occurs and people are trapped in a lift, there is peace of mind for lift owners as Elefone’s equipment has a 6hr+ talk time on battery back up allowing a call out for help.

How do I know when our area is ready for the nbn™?

Enter your building address into http://www.nbnco.com.au

How long until I need to change over to the mobile network?

Within 18 months of nbn™ connection and prior to the copper cable being cut.

Who is responsible for the new equipment costs?

The owner of the lift.

Do I need a Dual SIM gateway?

A Dual SIM gateway means that in the event of a power outage a connection to a back up network will be available.

Who provides the SIM cards?

Elefone can provide SIMs and is also able to monitor the gateway equipment.

Does Elefone equipment meet ACMA standards?
